HOW TO SIZE YOUR CORNICE

The sizes we show under each profile are height, which is how far the cornice extends down the wall from the ceiling, and projection, which is how far it extends across the ceiling from the wall. An average sized cornice would range from about 7cm x 7cm to about 12cm x 12cm. We tend to run each page with the smaller profiles to the top, getting larger as you scroll down the page. Please remember that we can send a couple of samples out to you if you are unsure.

Cornice Sizing

Combining cornices, or cornice with railing, can create a beautiful and dramatic feature. It enables you to both create an enlarged feature by extending it down your wall and / or across your ceiling, and to customise a feature to your own exact requirements.

In this section we try to give you a few ideas of the techniques you can use, and a few examples of what products we have found work well together. But please feel free to create your own unique combinations.

One word of warning - keep your budget in mind! It's all too easy to get carried away. To help with that remember that 'Classic' products are usually cheaper than 'Premier'.

OFFSETTINGS A RAILING FROM A CORNICE

Cornice Combination 4

Cornice Combination 4

This simple technique allows you to tailor your feature easily to your exact requirements.

Simply install cornice as usual, then offset a railing either down your wall, or across your ceiling, or both. The railing does not touch the cornice, but is spaced away from it. Then paint the cornice, railing and space between them the same colour to visually combine them into a single feature.

You can start with any cornice, although Classic Cornices 6 and 7 are particularly popular. The railings most commonly used are Classic Railing 1 and 3 and Premier Railing 2 as they offer generically rounded shapes.

Cornice Combination 4 above uses Premier Cornice 8 with Classic Railing 3 offset from it across the ceiling.

Cornice Combination 5 above shows Premier Cornice 10 with Premier Railing 2 offset from it down the wall. In this instance it has been offset some distance, at picture rail height, but the offset can be much less.

BUTTING A RAILING UP TO A CORNICE

Cornice Combination 6

Cornice Combination 7

Cornice Combination 7

Alternatively you can butt a railing up to the cornice, or butt one and space another. Any step that is created by a difference in depth in the two products simply becomes a line in the combined 'single' feature.

Cornice Combination 6 above uses Classic Cornice 7 (installed 'upside down'), with Classic Railing 8 butting up both down the wall, and across the ceiling

Cornice Combination 7 above uses Premier Cornice 7 (installed 'upside down'), with Premier Railing 12 butting up to it down the wall and Premier Railing 22 offsett from it across the ceiling. In this instance on one wall the customer has then used our Wall Decorations 1 & 2 with a further run of Premier Railing 22 to extend the feature further down one wall.

PREMIER CORNICE 33 COMBINATIONS

Cornice Combinations
Cornice Combinations

Our Premier Cornice 33 can be combined with products in three ways.

First, as in the picture top left, it can be combined with a railing offset across the ceiling to give a feature like many Victorian cornices that project a fair distance across the ceiling whilst extending a much shorter distance down the wall. In the picture above Premier Railing 6 has been used.

Second, as in the illustrations here, you can run the Cornice across the ceiling in the usual way, and then install another cornice directly underneath it.

Third, as in the picture top right, you can run the length of the Cornice down the wall and then install another cornice directly to the side of it. In the picture above Premier Cornice 26 has been used.

Below we show just the products we've mentioned here, but there are many others that would work just as well.

DOUBLE UP TO CREATE A HUGE CORNICE

Cornice Combination 6

Cornice Combination 8

Two of our larger cornices are moulded with two adhesion points along their long straight sections, which enables good bonding to a single wall or ceiling surface. This means that you can run one length vertically down your wall and another horizontally across your ceiling. With their ends meeting they create a single large cornice feature. Cornice Combination 8 above uses Premier Cornice 11 in this way (the bottom section has been stained here to match the wall panelling).

DELIVERY

We hold stock of these products at our European warehouse (the goods are manufactured in Europe). This means that it is very rare that we are out of stock, but if we are we will contact you to advise likely timescales and check that you are happy to proceed. From the warehouse we use TNT's 48 hour delivery service. This means a delivery to you 2 to 3 working days after you place your order, depending on what time you place your order. Deliveries occur on weekdays between 9am and 6pm. Next day, before midday and Saturday options are available, but at additional cost. There are other ranges that we do warehouse in the UK and can deliver next day at no additional cost - if you are desperate please give us a call. We can also hold your order back if you want us to target a better delivery day for you.

Please note that surcharges apply to Highlands, islands and overseas. Please call for details.

When you receive your order the driver is unlikely to wait for you to check your goods so please sign for them as 'unchecked', or if there is any obvious sign of damage to the packaging, as 'damaged' (even though the contents may not be). Then, check the contents when you get them inside. We don't often have damage, and we will replace any damaged goods, but please ensure that you notify us within 24 working hours of receipt.

RETURNS POLICY FOR THIS RANGE

We do accept returns on this range. The responsibility and cost for returning items though is yours. Using the following advice should avoid the need to return goods:

If the worst comes to worst though and you do need to return items you will find the full procedure on our terms and conditions page, but in summary:

1. Notify us. We need to know that you are planning to return goods and to advise you where to return them to as we don't accept returns at our sales office. You need to do this within 2 weeks of you receiving the goods.
2. It is your responsibility to return the goods in good condition, to pay for that cost, and to do so within 2 weeks of you advising us that you wish to return the goods. We're sorry but we don't accept returns after this time.
3. Please check that you have received all of the items in good condition within 24 hours of you receiving them, even if you have decided to return them.
