Flexible Dado Rail

A curved wall doesn’t have to mean stopping your dado rail or changing your interior design.

Flexible dado rails are designed to bend around curved and rounded surfaces, allowing them to continue more smoothly around architectural features which won`t work with standard rigid profiles.

They are particularly useful when decorating period properties with unusual architectural details or creating wall panelling in rooms where the walls are not completely straight.

Flexible mouldings can also help you maintain a consistent design. Rather than ending the dado rail before a curve and restarting it afterwards, the appropriate flexible profile can follow the shape of the wall

How does it work?

The magic is in the material, made from a high-grade polymer which is a rubbery material to make it flexible. It it pre-primed and easily accepts paint. The profile is naturally flexible at all temperatures so no need to heat the profiles with a heat gun to make them flexible. It makes it very easy to use and install with just adhesives.

Choosing the right style:

This is often the hardest part of the project, which profile do we go for? We would recommend deciding whether you want something big chunky and bold for creating an effect, or something smaller and subtle for complementing the rest of the interiors.

Then we would recommend choosing a style which is similar to the skirting boards, then ordering samples of the relevant profiles and hold them up to see what will work best.

What is a flexible dado rail?

A flexible dado rail (or chair rail) as they are sometimes called is a flexible bendable wall wall beading which is designed to go above wall panelling around curved walls like bay windows, rounded corners and staircases.

Can a flexible dado rail be used for wall panelling?

Yes, if you want to have a bespoke curved wall panelling design then they are perfect for it as they can be bent into many different shapes creating a bespoke panelling feel.

Do they need to be heated in order to be flexible?

No, our dado rails come naturally flexible meaning they don`t require heat to be flexible. This makes it easier to install without the need of constantly heating it until it is in the required shape.

Does it have to be all flexible dado rail even for straight sections?

No, all our flexible mouldings have an exact replica in a rigid version which can be butted up to each other. The flexible variation is more money so we would recommend purchasing only the flexible moulding where required.

Can flexible dado rails be painted?

Yes they all come with a pre-primed finish as standard so no sanding or priming required, just paint straight over with a couple of coats of good quality paint.

Minimum Radius

Calculate the radius of your curve first. This is critical as profiles will not bend to a tighter radius than the ones we quote.
Min. radius 1 relates to the product bending backwards and forwards on itself (eg. installing in a straight line onto a curved wall).
Min. radius 2 relates to the product bending up and down on itself (eg. installing in a curved line onto a flat wall).
