Pelmet Cornice
Curtain Pelmet cornice is designed to be able to go around floor-to-ceiling curtains to conceal the rails and tracks and to create a neat border around them to make them stand out as well as the cornice. This is a very attractive feature and is often found in High-end residential homes and hotels.
We supply different styles of pelmet cornice ranging from, Swan Neck to Stepped, to simple C shaped profiles. These vary in size meaning that you choose the right profile for your ceiling height and also enough to sufficiently cover the curtain poles.
Thanks to our lightweight materials, it is very easy to install our pelmet cornice – much easier than plaster as this doesn`t work very well when only being fixed to the ceiling.
Which Pelmet Cornice should I choose?
Its important to check which way the cornice will be going on the ceiling to work out how far down the pelmet coving will go to cover your existing fixtures. To work this out, which ever side of the profile has two points of contact with the ceiling then this is the way round the cornice needs to be.
How does it work?
Pelmet coving works because the profiles have two points of contact with the ceiling as opposed to only one side with a traditional cornice this means that it is strong enough and won`t flex and will stay secured in position. The same profile would be used to go around the rest of the room attached to both the wall and ceiling but when it comes to the windows, simply do a 90 degree bend and come out into the room enough so that the curtains fan move freely without resting against the coving and go around the perimeter of the curtains and back into the wall again on the other side.

How to cover Curtain rails on floor to ceiling curtains?
The best way to do that is to use Pelmet cornice which is a type of coving which can go around the whole room or just the curtains on the ceiling and covers any unsightly rails or poles and fixtures.

How much clearance should I leave behind the pelmet?
We would recommend allowing enough room for the curtains to move freely without rubbing against the cornice to put pressure on the cornice as the coving isn`t load bearing. You also want to make sure it is as close as possible to the curtains to ensure that the fixtures are concealed as much as possible.
Can pelmet cornice be used to go across a bay window?
Yes pelmet coving is often used to run straight across a bay window without going into the window opening, when putting a curtain behind this. It can create a stunning feature acting as a hidden wall with the bay window opening out behind it.
Can I convert standard coving into pelmet coving?
Whilst the pelmet curtain coving on this page has been designed because they are easy to install and have 2 points of contact with the ceiling. You can convert most of our other covings into curtain pelmet coving by attaching a timber batten or similar to the ceiling just behind the standard coving and then attaching the coving to the ceiling and the timber batten to give it the strength needed to not move over time.
Can I install pelmet cornice around the curtains only?
Yes, you can install it only around the curtains or windows, simply just use the cornice to go on the ceiling around the perimeter of the curtains to hide the fixtures but leave enough room for the curtains to move freely, then return the cornice back into the wall. This is great for creating a
How To Size Your Cornice
The sizes we show under each profile are height, which is how far the cornice extends down the wall from the ceiling, and projection, which is how far it extends across the ceiling from the wall.
An average sized cornice would range from about 7cm x 7cm to about 12cm x 12cm. We can send a couple of samples out if you are unsure.
