Raised Wall & Door Panels
Raised Wall Panels are one of the oldest forms of wall panelling, featuring a border to create a frame with the centre filled in with a solid panel which is either simple and flat or traditionally it is raised slightly from the edges of the centre of the panel to add more detail to your interior with a more intricate design.
These panels can be used in a variety of applications, but most often they are used as wainscoting which is the bottom half or third of the wall is used for wall panelling with a dado rail on top. Our raised panelling make the perfect choice as no cutting is required and simply installed using adhesives.
Door Panelling
The pre-formed panels on this page are also perfect for doors where there is a plain existing design and can be a more cost effective way of adding detail to doors without the cost. Make sure to check the dimensions of the existing doors to make sure our panels will fit sufficiently to the door, we would recommend allowing a small gap around the perimeter of the panel so is less prone to damage when the doors are open.
Raised Panel Wainscoting
This is one of the most common uses of raised panels because they are naturally at the right height for the panelling with just one panel for height. Simple install on top of the skirting boards and then put the panels into position typically spacing them apart from each other. Then they are capped with a dado rail which is slightly larger than the size of the moulding on the wall panelling to finish the panelling neatly. Then leave the top part of the wall above the panelling empty and put either wallpaper or paint on the wall to contrast the heavy style wall panelling.

Full Height Raised Wall Panelling
Raised Wall Panels don’t have to just be used as wainscoting at half height on the wall, or raised panels look stunning when used the full height of the ceiling and creates that “WOW” factor when used in hotels, offices and restaurants. For the best look, butt the panels up together to cover the entire wall as this creates a more stunning effect with the shadows forming to add even more definition and detail to interiors.
Raised Wall Panels on the ceiling?
Using our Raised Wall panels on the ceiling is commonly done because they are so lightweight so much easier to use on the ceiling compared to heavy timber or plaster. We also supply panel Inserts for some of our panels which sit within the panels to add extra design so you can have a pattern on the ceiling with different designs which always using the same size panel to form a consistent symmetrical grid design on the ceiling.
Choosing the Right Raised Panel Size
The collection includes different shapes and sizes, so don’t assume that the largest panel is automatically right for a large wall or that a smaller room always needs small panels.
Think about the proportions of the whole wall.
Larger panels can create a simpler, less busy appearance, while smaller panels allow you to introduce more repeated detail.
You can also combine compatible panels and inserts to create additional depth. Some of the designs on this page are specifically intended to work together, so double check the product information or contact us if you need any help.
The projection is worth considering too. A deeper panel creates stronger shadows and more pronounced architectural detail, while a shallower design will generally appear more subtle.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a raised wall panel?
A raised wall panel is a decorative feature which is often used in period traditional style homes, it is a square/rectangle on the wall with a solid middle of he panel which is slightly raised from the edges to create more detail and shadow lines.
What is the difference between raised panels and Shaker wall panelling?
Raised panels have more detail with ogee and rounded feature’s, they are more often found in older style properties. Shaker style wall panelling is more simple and plain with square mouldings.
Can they work around sockets and wall fixtures?
Yes certainly, we would recommend using a multi tool or drill a hole for the corners and use a jigsaw were required. For electrical sockets we would recommend having them sit proud of the wall panel as this conceals any cutting.
What happens if I have a smaller gap for the wall panel at the end of the wall?
Due to our panels being preformed, if it is only a small amount then the panel can be cut down the middle to remove the excess width and joined back together again and it shouldn`t be too noticeable. Otherwise, you can measure out the wall and make sure that you leave an even gap either side of the wall with no panel. This would make it not as noticeable and keep it all symmetrical.
How tall should wainscoting be?
There isn`t a specific height but anywhere between 0.8 to 1.2m tall is most common but with our preformed panels we would suggest making sure that it looks proportional between the skirting and the dado rail.
Is there an option for bespoke size panels?
Our customisable option for raised wall panels would be to use our Panel Mouldings which are supplied in straight lengths and then would have to be cut to the required size of your choice, this makes it a perfect choice for those wanting a bespoke design of wall panelling.
