Victorian Cornice

Victorian Cornice and Coving is the detail which is used to go between the wall and ceiling which was in the Victorian era which ran from 1837 to 1901. In that time Victorian coving and cornice styles changed dramatically, reflecting changing architectural fashion. In general, early Victorian era architecture was more grand and often ornate, featuring patterns like egg and dart or dentils. Later Victorian coving and cornice styles were often more linear and plain. For you this means that, unless you want to be accurate to an exact date, you can choose from many of the linear or ornate profiles available.

The Victorians also tended to have grander, or more ornate, cornices in rooms that would be seen by visitors. In private rooms, like bedrooms, coving or cornice would usually become smaller and simpler. Servants quarters, usually in the highest level in the house, would have only a very plain coving, if anything at all.

What rooms work with Victorian Cornice?

Victorian cornice works well in many rooms but traditionally you would use a larger cornice in your downstairs rooms on the ground floor as these would be the most prominent rooms. Victorian Cornice is often used in Lounges, Dinning Rooms, Kitchens, Entrance Halls. But can also be used in Bedrooms, Bathrooms too.

What is our Victorian Cornice made from?

Our Victorian Cornice is made from a lightweight High-Grade polymer which is very easy to install, traditionally Victorian Coving or Victorian Cornice was made with plaster, this was very heavy and brittle and cracked easily. Thanks to modern materials, we now have a durable material which will last for centuries and once painted you wouldn`t be able to distinguish between plaster and our high-grade polymer.
