Cornice can be combined with railing and Picture rails to create unique and dramatic features. You can be more creative than ever in choosing which profiles to pair together and how far apart to space them, giving you a bespoke design. Our Cornice Combinations create a large coving or cornice for high ceilings. Some of our more popular combinations can be found below.

These cornice combinations are ideal for period properties, with high ceilings and can be used in living rooms, hallways and feature spaces. Also, these can be installed by a DIYer as are made from a lightweight high-grade polymer and are supplied pre-primed and ready to paint.

Combining cornice and railing can create dramatic, unique features tailored to your exact requirements. You can butt the railing up to the cornice or, more commonly, offset it slightly. Then paint the cornice, railing and the space between them in the same colour. This helps the separate elements appear as one larger decorative feature.

This technique is often cheaper than buying a single, larger moulding and gives you more flexibility when creating a bespoke design.

Below are a few options that work well, but feel free to create your own. All products are:

How do I make coving look bigger?

If you have got existing coving which is too small and are wanting to increase its size without taking it down or replacing, then you can add railing or Dado Rail mouldings to the wall and ceiling either side of the coving or cornice and you can space them apart from each other to increase the effect. How much gap should I leave between the Cornice and Dado rails or Picture rails?

This is entirely up to you, and the size of coving which you want, if you have tall ceilings then space it further apart. As a general rule of thumb, if it`s for making the coving look bigger then space the Dado Rails 10cm from the cornice. If you are wanting it to look like a functional picture rail, then space it down the wall at least 30cm away from the bottom edge of the cornice.
